Some network sayings...

  • "This job would be fun if it weren't for the users...."
  • Never power anything off unless it's been backed up, then back it up again.
  • "Money and sex, storage and bandwidth: Only too much is ever enough"- Arno Penzias
  • Fast, cheap, reliable…..Pick two.
  • "Don't Panic"  - Douglas Adams
  • When in doubt, cut off the user's hands.
  • The maintenance is complete after the maintenance window's end time on the maintenance notification. IT'S OVER MAN. CHILL.
  • Temporary fixes are neither.
  • If all you have is a hammer, everything will look like a nail…
  • Never touch the network after 2:30p on a Friday. The moment you do, somebody has to stay until 7:00 Friday evening to fix something that was broken, or somebody has to come in on a Saturday to fix it.
  • I don't care why it's working now, but it's fixed.
  • If you do everything right and it still doesn't work, try doing something wrong.
  • Nobody has the right to be pissed during a maintenance window.
  • Networks are imperfect things.
  • It's not the firewall.
  • You can work around anything in networking with another layer of indirection. (Derived from RFC 1925).
  • Have you tried turning it off and on again?
